Paloma Faith's Music Video!

Hi All!!

As you know I love Paloma Faith's style! Her new song 'Just Be' is great and the video for it is wonderful! There are two outfit's in the video that really stand out for me and I am going to try and replicate them.

The first look is the gorgeous black, sequinned, evening gown she wears. This dress from Reiss (£265), like Paloma's, is long sleeved and heavily sequinned. It is also midi length which is bang on trend and perfect for the cold Christmas season. Pair it with a pair of black heels, seamed tights and this tassel clutch bag from Debenhams (£29.00). Perfect!

The second outfit is this on trend masculine look. For this look Paloma has borrowed from the boys, pairing a crisp white shirt with wide legged, high waisted trousers and braces. She has added an extra edge with the hat and by rolling up the sleeves. This is a great casual look that anyone can wear and Paloma certainly wears it well! Keep it feminine with curly hair, high heels and a red lip.
Oasis £15

If you are not quite brave enough to wear such a masculine hat like the one Paloma wears in the video..... wear a beret. They are easier to wear and warmer in this cold weather. You can add a bit of colour and playfulness with one like this from Oasis. Plus, Paloma loves a beret!!

Downton Abbey!

You love Downton Abbey! Come on.... admit it! The glamour, the drama, the romance! But most of all....(drum role please) The costumes!! They are beautiful! And now that the programme has come into the 1920's, the costumes have become more wearable and it's a look that we can finally inject into our own wardrobes. There are elements of the 20's running right through Autumn/Winter and it is a great look for Christmas! Work the look with Art Deco accessories, Flapper dresses, sequinned tops and tweed jackets.

New Look Embellished Dress £44.99

Miss Selfridge Deco Maxi Dress £45

If you have nothing to wear for that Christmas party, don't get yourself in a flap...Get a Flapper dress! Wear with understated shoes and accessories, the dress will say enough on it's own. It is a simple look for everyone to wear and you will sparkle on the dance floor.

What's Right Up Penny's Street........ Dawn Porter!

Hello My Vintage Lovelies!

I have started watching this new program called "Show Me Your Wardrobe" on Sky Living. I just put it on on the off chance and it is actually quite good. The two ladies that present it basically go into a celeb's wardrobe and have a good nose, and then try to recreate their style. On this episode they went to the lovely Dawn Porter's digs and had a good rummage through her 60's style wardrobe. She had some amazing stuff, mostly vintage, so I am dedicating this blog to our vintage loving friend.

How to replicate Dawn Porters swinging 60's style.....

Back to Basic's for Autumn/Winter!

Well, the temperature has certainly dropped over the last few weeks. Winter is approaching. But that means Winter Fashion! YAY!
Floral Peter Pan Collar from Forever 21 £7

Audrey would approve!

There are many fashion trends gracing us with their presence this season and many of them are worthy of our time, but you need to get your basics right first. The plain white T-shirt, the little black dress, the perfect pair of jeans. These are all a solid foundation to any wardrobe but a T-shirt and jeans alone are not going to score you any Brownie points! There is however a simple way to renovate the basic staple pieces in your wardrobe with a vintage twist..... The humble and effective collar.

Mui Mui Feather Collar £440
The look is timeless and can make the simplest of garments chic. It is a trend that is spilling over into Autumn/Winter and they seem to be getting bigger and more glamorous the nearer we get to Christmas.
Animal Print Leather Collar from Miss Selfridge £20

It's a perfect solution to the 'I have nothing to wear' syndrome. When you have got to brave the elements and your only welcoming clothes are your PJ's, strip it back to basics with a  jumper jeans or a tunic or dress with your thickest tights. Then just add your collar. Stylish. Sophisticated. Simple! And most importantly, warm! Dress it up or down, day or night.

Keep warm Guys!

What's Right Up Penny's Street?? .......Bringing out your inner animal!

A massive trend at the moment, and that is crossing over into Autumn/Winter, is prints, but not just any prints... animal prints! And I don't mean leopard or tiger, I mean actual animals! On This Morning yesturday was the 2012 BGT winners Ashleigh and Pudsey.
She looked lovely, and very grown up, in a doggy print dress. It was really cute! It was a great classic shape which would fit a variety of body shapes but it was made fun and age appropriate by the little doggies. Because of the shape and the fact that the print is small, it had a real vintage feel about it. I loved it!

Blouses are also really on trend this cold season and are so versitile. So I have combined the two trends and treated myself to this..... A horse print blouse. I love it and it goes with so much, dressed up or down.

It is not the best picture I am afraid!

Butterfly Prom Dress £45.00
Navy Cat Print Top £18.00
It is a fun trend but needs to been worn carefully! Keep it stylish with classic statement pieces and shapes. It also looks great as part of the on trend heritage look that is huge for Autumn/Winter. Here are a few ideas...

Both of these options are from H! by Henry Holland at Debenhams.

Pink Embellished Bee Jumper £32.00
Bird Peplum Tea Dress £29.50

Both of these options are from Dorothy Perkins.

So now you all know how to release your inner animal, I expect you to run wild!

What a month!!

Hi All!

What a month I have had!! It's been full of vintage fun!

September kicked off with Penny's Lane's second vintage fair, this time at The Brewery Store in Faversham. What a FAB venue! It was full to the brim with vintage treasures and vintage cars. The yummy cakes were being eaten and the tea was flowing and we had the pleasure of being serenaded by the wonderful Wayward Sisters. We even got mentioned on the radio!

A week later I was off to The Antics Roadshow in the Chatham Dockside. We had lovely weather, thank god because the queue was HUGE, and outside! But what a great atmosphere!I went with my Marge and Parge (Mum and Dad) and my friends and we all got something valued. Unfortunately, none of us are worth any more than originally thought. But Parge did get on the T.V!

Then it was off to Salute To The 40's! It was a wonderful afternoon. My boyfriend Stefan and I took his Nan Brenda with us and we loved it! There was lots going on and something for everyone. There were vintage vehicles, vintage clothes, live music and comedy sets and they had also recreated many different sets from the 40's, including a butchers, a post office and a wartime bunker. It was like stepping back into wartime Britain! We sat and had a nice cup of tea and enjoyed the atmosphere.

The best and funniest part of the day was when they reconstructed an air rade. The three of us were just walking along, minding our own business and suddenly the siren was going off! It made us all jump and we all had a good giggle about it but then...... An old fire enguine came speeding round the corner, there was shouting and gun fire and bombing noises! I nearly DIED!! I jumped out of my skin and all I could think of was the stories that Brenda has told me about. They used to have to find cover if they were outside and nowhere near a bunker, so I was looking for the nearest brush, much to the ammusment of Stefan and Brenda. My next thought was 'OMG Brenda! She is probably terrified', but oh no, she found it hillarious! She was laughing with the old man standing next to her (The flirt!), After I calmed down and pulled myself together, and managed to stop the other two laughing, I realised that I would have been useless in the war!

My next treat was a night out with my other half  to a Burlesque show. It was amazing! We were both Burlesque virgins and really enjoyed ourselves. It was a mix of dancing, singing, magic and clothes removing. There was even a drag queen. Heaven! Stefan even managed to embarrass me when at then end of the evening at the meet and greet, he made me ask one of the burlesque dancers where she got her knickers from. Ebay ladies, Ebay!

So that was my vintage filled month! Vintage, antics, bombing and knickers!! What more could a girl need?!?

What's right up Penny's street??........Paloma Faith on 'This Morning'

So, for those of you who don't know me......

I love Paloma Faith!

I love her, her music, her quirkiness, but most of all..... I love her STYLE!!

I was watching 'This Morning' yesterday with Brenda (My nan in-law) and there she was, in all her vintage style glory, being interviewed and singing her last single '30 minuet love affair'. She looked amazing! Her outfit was as impeccable as ever! Even Brenda, who is 81 and I am sorry to say unaware of what she is doing half the time, commented on her outfit. Although she did say she looked like she was wearing a pair of ears LOL! God love you Brenda!

I finally found a photo of her in it, and here it is....

She pulls of this outfit to an absolute T and I have to admit makes me thoroughly envious of her! She really knows her own style and the 1940's/1950's glamour is perfection on her.

Unfortunately you can't see the back of her head (an unusual thing to say I know), but this head scarf is stunning. Her whole head, except for her green 'ears', is covered in leopard print and along with the green, the superb blonde fringe roll and the vibrant orange hair that is also poking through, this is a very well styled outfit. Stunning!

How to recreate???

This animal body con dress from Warehouse is wonderful! It would be flattering for all shapes and sizes with the black panelling down each side. It comes in sizes 6-16 and is £50.

All you need now is a head scarf. I feel the scarf needs be as bold, if not bolder than the dress. A contrast in colours! There are hundreds of options available out there. You could always hunt yourself down an original, one of a kind, vintage head scarf. I'm sure that's What Paloma would do!

I hope you enjoyed it! And Paloma...... We love you!

Until next time.....

The beginning....

Hello everyone and welcome to my Blog!

What a few months it has been.....
Last weekend Kent saw the FIRST ever Penny's Lane Vintage Fair in Rochester and what a success it was!

I started selling vintage clothes and accessories at vintage fairs around the UK about a year ago and loved it! I knew however that I would eventually want to organise my own fairs, so I did it.

I chose Rochester to hold my first vintage fair because it is a lively town and so beautifully historic.

I am pleased to say that the first fair there was so successful and full to the brim with vintage goodies!!

There were a total of 13 stalls all together selling a variety of things, including a tea and cake stall.....

And of course Penny's Lane own stall also. We had just under 300 people turn up to enjoy the atmosphere, music, cakes and of course the shopping!

We all had a great day and I cannot wait for the next one in Faversham on the 1st September. It promises to be fab with around 18 stalls, tea and cake, a bar and live music from The Wayward Sisters! Do come and join us all.

Until next time.....
